Obesity in children is a growing concern for many families. This article offers practical tips that parents can utilize to manage weight problems in children.

When children consume more calories than they burn, the end result is often obesity. Children who are overweight face increased risks of developing diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, cholesterol problems, low self-esteem, and they also have a higher chance of becoming obese adults.

The average child spends four hours a day watching television, and a small amount of time engaged in physical activities. This along with excessive portion sizes, and the consumption of fatty foods and drinks that are laden with empty calories have greatly contributed to the surge in childhood obesity.

Tips to Manage Obesity in Children

When parents attempt to manage weight problems in children, they need to understand that there is no "quick fix." Managing obesity in kid is a long term endeavor that should give children the tools that they need to make choices that are beneficial to their lifelong health.

If parents have concerns about weight management in children, they should talk to a pediatrician.
