If anyone can help me get along with my daughter-in-law, it would be greatly appreciated. My son is a Marine, and she recently graduated from college. Before their marriage, shortly after their engagement, they found out that a child had been concived with another woman my son had been with. The child, a beautiful heathy handsome grandson lives in my state, while they live in another. My daughter-in-law is a control freak who refuses to let my son say good night with his son unless it is on three-way while he is away from home so she can listen to every word spoken to his son...my grandson is only 20 months old. His conversations with his father is one sided..he says Da Da...what is my daughter-in-laws problem with her husband being a good father long-distance to his only child??? Why does she feel so threatened by this relationship? Why does my son allow his wife to be a control freak? What can I do to make things different for the "whole" family? My daughter-in-law demands full attention from all family memeber she comes in contact with each and every day. I miss my son terribly, but I am getting to the point it is easier to ignore their situation, be the best granny possible to my grandson and hope that when they start a family, they will realize the awesome responsiblity children require and they will grow into responsible adults.

It sounds like a tough spot for everyone. While I can't offer any "professional" advice, I can say that it's heartbreaking that your precious grandson has to be stuck in the middle of adult generated conflict.
